My first time...

...that I wholeheartedly agree with Brian Sewell:

  1. Sewell is a good critic of contemporary art because he knows about it.

I would add to his comment about Rubens' studio that Rubens, and all other artists who employed assistants to make their works, taught their assistants, and hence could do everything their assistants did.

Hirst, it always strikes me, knows little about art and is actually not interested in it. Every time I have heard him interviewed, he talks about business.

  2. Thanks for reading my blog and for your comment.

I agree with what you're saying.

Yes ofcourse, as a famous art critic Sewell knows about art through the ages, although I dont normally agree with all his views like I do in this review.

I would also add that Hirst is a better businessman than artist, who doesnt explain enough about his work. This is reflected in the wall text and audioguide for the show, that one exhibition visitor described as "just full of hot air." It also exposes Hirst's work as shallow and superficial, which should be relected in the public perception of him, but strangely the show has been selling out every day since it opened on Wednesday...
